  • We are a fully virtual practice, allowing us to service clients conveniently and privately in DC, Virginia, and Maryland. Virtual counseling means that you can have your appointment at your home, office, or other location that is convenient and comfortable for you.

  • Online therapy is conducted over a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform called Simple Practice.

    All communication, scheduling, and billing will be managed through this platform for your privacy and ease.

    We encourage you to log on to your session in a private space where you are comfortable talking, with as few distractions as possible to maximize our time together.

  • Yes!

    We have extensive experience working with international clients. While we strive to reach as many people as possible, please be aware that our ability to provide services may be subject to the licensing regulations and requirements of your specific location. We will discuss these considerations with you during your initial free consultation to ensure we can offer appropriate support.

  • The relationship between you and a therapist is crucial for successful therapy. We encourage you to explore our team’s profiles on our About Us page to learn about their specialties and experience.

    Many people find it helpful to have an initial consultation to see see if they feel comfortable and understood by a particular therapist.

  • To make the most of your time and allow us to begin supporting you right away, we will send you our intake paperwork to complete prior to your first session. This allows us to dedicate our initial meeting to understanding your reasons for seeking therapy in greater depth, gathering relevant background information, and collaboratively identifying your goals. This first session is also an important opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have and to get a feel for your therapist's approach and how we can best work together.

  • The length of therapy varies among clients based on their needs and goals at a given time.

    The length of therapy is discussed and agreed to between you and your therapist.

  • Our fees vary depending on the type of service.

    Individual counseling is $239 for a 50-minute session.

    Couples counseling is $300 for a 75-minute session.

    Group support session costs vary depending on the type of group. Please check the group support page for information about our groups and the costs.

    We are out-of-network with insurance companies and are happy to provide you with a monthly superbill to support you in seeking reimbursement.

  • We believe that access to quality mental health care is a human right.

    We reserve a portion of our sessions to provide individual counseling at a discounted fee. These sessions are intended for international aid workers, recently separated federal employees and contractors, and others in financial need.

    During the initial consultation, please discuss your circumstances with your therapist.

  • KonTerra Counseling & Psychological Services is our group practice focused on providing direct individual, couple, and group psychotherapy, as well as immigration evaluations.
